Mayertorne Manor was built in the late 1700s with a Queen Anne architect design. The manor was built with red and blue vitreous bricks with red brick dressings and a slate roof with overhanging eaves. In the Victorian era, the manor was known as Wendover Dean House. The manor has changed hands many times over the centuries, having been a farm in the 1850s and in the early 1900s it was a boarding school for girls. The school was founded by Isobel Fry and was closed in the early 1960s. Mayertorne Manor then became a family home and over the next 50 years was refurbished, decorated and restored to its former glory. Many original and traditional features remain within the manor today including sash windows with shutters and window seats, high ceilings, stone fireplaces, solid wood wall panelling and original doors.

Reception Hall
Stone steps lead up to the original door which opens to the reception hall. There are three sash windows with original shutters and window seats that overlook one of the formal gardens. History of Wendover
The town name “Wendover” is of Brythonic origin and means "white waters”, belonging to the stream that rises in the adjacent hills and flows through the middle of the town. The parish church of St. Mary is outside the town to the east on the hillside: a feature that is very common among towns with strong Celtic origins. The town was a Parliamentary Borough continuously from 1708 until the seat was abolished by the Reform Act 1832. It has had a royal charter to hold a weekly market since 1464 meaning that officially it is a town rather than a village. Part of the town was once the property of Anne Boleyn whose father held the manor of Aylesbury among his many estates. There is still a row of houses in the town today, known as Anne Boleyn's Cottages.

The nearby market towns of Wendover and Great Missenden are approximately 2.5 miles away and offer a variety of shops, boutiques, restaurants, public houses and a mainline railway station with services to Marylebone.
