Property description

This architecturally stunning residence was re-built in 1820 as part of Whaddon Manor and is now a private rural 5 bedroom wing of Whaddon Hall extending in excess of 4000 sq ft. Whaddon offers excellent access to London, Oxford via Milton Keynes train station which is 5 miles away. EPC: E

Set in a secluded rural location with far reaching views over the ancient Whaddon Chase, Whaddon Hall was built as a private home in 1820 before serving as the secret communications headquarters of MI6 during MM2 intercepting messages for the code breakers at nearby Bletchley Park.
Extensive family accommodation arranged over 4 levels, much of which has been renovated and improved by the current owners.
Whaddon Hall was the Manor House for many years and the home of the Lowndes family from 1783 when Mr W. Lowndes Selby took possession of the Hall. In 1813 his son took again the family name of Lowndes after that of Selby, and so the name of Selby-Lowndes became associated with the village and remains in the memory of many of the older villagers. The present Whaddon Hall is at least the fourth to stand on the site.
The village is at the centre of the ancient Whaddon Chase, the site for many centuries of royal hunting lands. Whaddon Chase is designated an area of 'Special Landscape Interest'.
Whaddon Church of England School is a mixed Church of England primary school. It is a voluntary controlled school, which takes children from the age of 4 through to the age of 8. The school has approximately 50 pupils.
