Harbour Island is a private island situated just off Crinan Harbour, forming some 9 acres or thereby. Crinan is a small charming west coast harbour, which forms the sea end of the Crinan Canal. The Canal opened in 1801 and stretches for 9 miles, from Ardrishaig on Loch Fyne to Crinan on the Sound of Jura, and provides a shortcut from the Firth of Clyde to the Western Isles. There are 15 locks in the 9 mile stretch of water and every year between 2,000 and 3,000 vessels, mostly pleasure craft, use the canal. Four of the locks are at Cairnbaan and it is at this point that the canal reaches its summit of 68 feet above sea level. Moorings are offered on the canal and the established boating centres of Crinan, Tayvallich, Ardfern and Craobh Haven are all within easy reach. Crinan is not only notable for its harbour but also for the renowned Crinan Hotel which has a fine reputation for its seafood and warm hospitality. The nearby Crinan Boatyard is a convenient and well equipped stopping point for cruising boats. The yard also provides services and facilities for the commercial, government and leisure markets.
Lochgilphead (7 miles) is the main centre of mid Argyll and offers a variety of amenities and shops including a sports centre, hospital, library and the main primary and secondary schools. The headquarters of Argyll and Bute Council are also in Lochgilphead. The surrounding area offers some of Scotland's prettiest walks, prehistoric sites in Kilmartin Glen, challenging climbing, excellent fishing and, of course, testing sailing waters.

Harbour Island is reached in a matter of minutes by boat from Crinan Harbour and is therefore a fantastically located private haven without being too remote.

Directions

From Glasgow follow the M8 westbound over the Erskine Bridge and take the A82 signposted Crianlarich. Follow the A82 up Loch Lomond and at Tarbet take the A83, travelling through Inveraray to Lochgilphead. Proceed through Lochgilphead and turn right at the mini roundabout onto the A816. Turn left at the signpost for Cairnbaan on to the B841 and at the Cairnbaan Hotel, keep right to stay on B841 towards the village of Crinan. Arrangements for access to Harbour Island will be given when an appointment is made.
