Features and description

  • A truly fascinating and impressive detached period property
  • Double garage and vast gated in & out driveway
  • Generous plot including a beautiful mature garden
  • Designed by Edwin Lutyens and still retaining original features
  • Ideally located on a private road near the beach
  • Early possession possible as no onward chain
Believed to have been designed by Edwin Lutyens, this stunning seaside residence is very impressive. Created in the Tudor style it has fabulous original external and internal features but has been completely but sensitively renovated to an extremely high standard.

One pair of solid wood automatic gates open onto the carriage driveway and lead to the pitched roof porch with the original Tudor style front door. There is an awe-inspiring entrance hall with a partially double height beamed and angled ceiling, oak flooring, wall panelling, stained glass windows and the original oak staircase with views of the curved galleried landing.

The elegant triple aspect drawing room has marble flooring, an ornate stone fireplace and original leaded light doors that open into the charming sun room. This has five bi-fold doors to the York stone terrace that spans the width of the property. A Tudor style door opens into the dual aspect snug with half height wood panelling and an historic stone fireplace with a backplate commemorating victory over the Spanish Armada in 1588.

There is an attractive dining room with bi-fold doors to the terrace, Amtico flooring that flows through to the kitchen/ breakfast room, marble window sills, painted ceiling beams and access to a cloakroom and utility room. An original oak and studded door opens into the superb dual aspect kitchen/breakfast room with two sets of bi-fold doors to the garden. It includes a Lacanche cooker, a central island and shaker style units with marble worktops housing high end appliances. There is an adjacent cloakroom and a dual aspect family room with panelled walls and a bay window.

The iconic curved galleried landing provides access to a cloakroom, a single bedroom and four doubles with en suite facilities including the delightful dual aspect main bedroom with its ornate coving and metallic wallpaper, attractive fitted wardrobes, an eaves cupboard and a very luxurious ensuite bathroom.

The rear garden is surrounded by exotic trees and shrubs including original plantings and a spacious central lawn and stunning fountain, external lighting, and rear access to the double garage and driveway.

What the Owner says:
We bought this fascinating property about 15 years ago. It was in a somewhat parlous state but it was such an iconic building that we felt it could make a wonderful family home. We spent a year renovating and refurbishing it, while still keeping true to the original integrity of the building.
We love the location as it is very quiet and private but we are close to the seafront, local restaurants and the golf course. Broadstairs includes a variety of bars, restaurants and independent shops as well as a cinema, theatre and a station where fast trains can whisk you to St Pancras in under an hour and a half. There are excellent state and private schools available while sports available include surfing, sailing, cricket, tennis, rugby and squash.
