Description

A breathtaking Grade II* listed house and one of historic importance, Skelton Manor is situated in a private position on the exclusive Church Land in Skelton. Built in circa 1550, the property is an incredible example of Elizabethan architecture. Once home to a merchant adventurer who later become Lord mayor of York, this is a home of historic importance and offers the buyer a rare chance to purchase a property full to the brim with period features including oak panelling, spectacular friezes and carvings.

There is scope for a new owner to add their own stamp. The rooms, all of excellent proportions, offer space and flexibility for family living.

On entering the property you are immediately taken back in time, with the beautifully preserved wooden panelling and period features of the grand drawing room. This leads on to two equally impressive reception rooms and a large kitchen-breakfast room and more recently added garden room.

The first floor houses four bedrooms and a sitting room, decorated with the most spectacular carvings. The principal bedroom and bedroom two both benefit from en suite bathrooms and a there is a separate house bathroom.

The west wing is home to a snug and cottage kitchen with upstairs sitting room and bedroom suite. It would work well as a self contained annexe or could easily be incorporated into the main residence.

The property sits behind a gated driveway and a wonderful mature garden with lawned areas and thoughtfully planted borders. Surrounded by trees and a large hedge the garden is a peaceful oasis and gives the feeling of countryside living.

Behind the property there are three useful outbuildings facing onto a courtyard.

Location

Skelton is a convenient village situated about four miles to the north of York. The village is a desirable address with a shop, post office, pub, doctors’ surgery, bus service, garden centre, golf course and a good primary school.

Nearby, there is a park and ride bus service at Rawcliffe (about two miles from Skelton)and a railway station at Poppleton (about three miles from Skelton).

York is an ever popular city with excellent shopping, restaurants, two theatres and a racecourse. There are a number of independent schools in the city including St Peters, Bootham and The Mount.
