Additional Info

Sir John Brograve was an English lawyer who served as an MP from 1586 to 1593 as well as Principle Justice of the Peace for the county of Hertfordshire. Appointed as her majesty’s attorney for the Duchy of Lancaster, Brograve built his own Elizabeth Buntingford Mansion. His home sat astride the two parishes he owned – Westmill and Braughing, on the site where Hamels stands today. It is worth noting that some of Brograve’s distinctive structure and aesthetics are evident in the mansion even to this day.
