One of Essex finest country houses set in an outstanding location overlooking Epping Forest

Description

Walton occupies a commanding position in one of the most beautiful areas of Essex. Overlooking Epping Forest in the open and undulating countryside. Despite the enviable setting Walton is located perfectly for superb communications to the City of London and via the M25 and M11 to London, Cambridge and the principal airports. Overlooking its own manicured gardens and further grounds with the privacy provided by a perimeter wall. The Gardens have a lovely view of the Church next door. The property has been beautifully and respectfully modernised throughout.

The land and original house were given by Queen Victoria to General Arnold Richard Marter of the Hassars for the services to Britain. Subsequently promoted and becoming an Equerry to the Queen. Major General Marter demolished the original rectory and built the present house in 1903. Being a cavalry man he paid particular attention to the standard of the stables and the other facilities which largely remain in their original form. Members of the Marter family continued to live in the house until 1964.

Outside
Adjoining the property on the western side is a double garage. To the north west side of the forecourt there is a brick built stable block under a peg tiled roof which includes four traditional loose boxes, paneled tack room, triple garage with loft over part and a garden shed to the one end.

The Gardens
Walton is set in beautiful gardens and grounds. The front door looks out onto a walled garden with herbatious borders and fruit trees. Continuing around the house the ornate shrubs and further borders lead to the front entrance with stone balustrading. From the rear terrace a set of steps lead down to the lawn and moated brick lily pond. From this point the formal grounds, which lead down to the two paddocks, with views through a pretty wrought iron gate frame these paddocks perfectly and give further views over the surrounding countryside.

Location

The village of Epping Upland is well known for the undulating and unspoilt countryside which surrounds it. Communications are, nevertheless, superb with the Central Line from Epping (Central line) leading straight into the City. Mainline services are available just 3 miles away at Harlow (Liverpool Street, 37
minutes) Junction 26 of the M25 and Junction 7 of the M11 give access to the rest of the motorway network with Heathrow 45 miles and Stansted 15.3 miles away.

Golf courses: Theydon Bois, Abridge and West Essex

Broadband availability and predicted speed: obtained from Ofcom on May 25, 2022

Broadband speed is measured in megabits per second, with the number returned showing how fast the connection is. Each reading is based on the highest predicted speed of any major broadband network for services that deliver the download speeds. The following are the different readings that we may display:

    Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
    Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
    Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s

The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2

Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength: obtained from Ofcom on May 25, 2022

Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:

Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services

Energy Performance data and Internal floor area: obtained on October 19, 2021 from The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007 or the Home Report if in relation to a residential property in Scotland.

Any supplementary data should not be relied upon as forming part of any property particulars and OnTheMarket cannot be held responsible for any incorrectness in this data. See here for more information.
