The Story
Sitting on the balcony in his one-bedroom apartment at Cedar Lodge, Lynwood Village, the owners of the property liked nothing more than to people watch, according to their daughter-in-law. “It was a nice place to just sit and watch the world go by, from the privacy and quiet of the apartment,” she says. “I always say this is a great people-watching flat – and this is what my parents-in-law were looking for when they bought the property. They wanted to move somewhere where they could choose to see and be around other people if they wished while also enjoying their privacy and seclusion. This place offers all of that, and more.”

HOTEL STYLE SETTING
Set on the second floor of beautiful Cedar Lodge, with its communal, glass atrium hallways, where residents can choose to pause and socialise or relax on comfortable seating, the retirement property was exactly what they were seeking at the time. “We went to see so many places, but nothing was quite right,” she recalls. “Then we came here, and they were very impressed. The apartment itself was a good size but more importantly they loved everything else that was on offer at Lynwood Village. We discussed it and said it would be like living in a very friendly, five-star hotel.”

AMAZING CHOICE
Lynwood Village in Sunninghill is a superior retirement complex, featuring high quality homes of different styles and sizes, all of which have access to a spectrum of exclusive, on-site amenities. These include a swimming pool, gym, library, restaurant, hair salon and shop. Residents can take part in classes, activities and excursions if they wish, including regular bus trips to local supermarkets. “My father-in-law wanted to be able to play snooker and to go and sit out in the sunshine in the beautiful, communal gardens if he chose,” she explains. “My mother-in-law enjoyed going to the library, where she would do jigsaw puzzles. There are so many activities and amenities here that it caters for people with all sorts of different interests.”

A CARING COMMUNITY
Many residents live independently, without support, when they first move into their homes. However, staff are present on site 24 hours a day in case of emergency and tailored arrangements of additional support and care can be bought in if required. There is also a purpose-built centre within the village that provides specialist dementia, residential and nursing care, in case needs change. “It was very reassuring for us to know they were safe and comfortable at Lynwood Village,” she adds.

EASY LIVING
The well-maintained apartment is on the second floor of the building and is accessed by a lift. The front door then opens on to an entrance hall, which leads to a good-sized double bedroom, with built-in storage. “The shower room has Jack and Jill access from both the bedroom and the hall, which works well,” she says. A wide area of hall then leads into the large, L-shaped drawing and dining room, which features an elegant fireplace. To one side of this is a broad entrance through to the adjoining, fitted kitchen. “Again, this worked very well for my parents-in-law,” she remembers. “They enjoyed being able to go down to the restaurant for their meals but were able to prepare breakfast and lunch here, or to make a cup of tea or coffee and carry it through to the dining table next door. There was ample space for comfortable seating.”

AN APPEALING PLACE
French windows from the main living space open on to the balcony. During the warmer months, it was nice to keep these open or to wander out on to the balcony, with its small table and chairs. The gardens at the complex are also pleasant place for sitting out in the fresh air. Residents who still drive enjoy being able to spend time in the many green spaces and parks within the Ascot area as well. “Lynwood Village is well located for reached Windsor Great Park, Virginia Water and, of course, the racecourse,” she says. “It is also within easy reach of shops, supermarkets and restaurants, for those people who enjoy getting out and about independently – and it is within walking distance of the GP’s surgery. Everything you need really is on the doorstep here, which is what makes it such an appealing place to live.”

SETTING THE SCENE
The apartment benefits from its own private balcony, but all residents of Lynwood Village can also enjoy the communal grounds. These include a beautiful English garden that overlooks woodland. There is secure parking.
