Property description & features

CASH PURCHASERS ONLY. NO HOME REPORT.

Built on the River Clyde circa 2011 and in full working order,“Laika” is a wide-beam Dutch barge. A comfortable and spacious live aboard vessel, she is suitably designed to be sailed throughout the UK waterways and even beyond! Currently moored in the upper basin at Bowling Harbour (known as Helenslea) at the far end of the pontoon, this beautiful spot provides privacy and lovely views over the canal and down the water towards the Erskine Bridge. This is where the Forth and Clyde canal meets the River Clyde, giving access to the Clyde estuary and the Crinan and Caledonian Canals. Being 65 feet in length and with a beam of over 15 feet, “Laika” offers exceptionally spacious accommodation that extends to around 570 square feet inside, along with a well proportioned outside cockpit (sitting area) to the rear of the boat and with side decks leading to the bow. There is fantastic outside space to enjoy the views. This all makes for a very comfortable, “live aboard” boat that enjoys many of the creature comforts of your more run-of-the-mill traditional home built on terra firma! There is a large wheelhouse/living room, dining room/kitchen (galley) with wood burning stove, a master double cabin with storage, forepeak single cabin and well-equipped heads (bathroom). Equipped with central heating throughout, a wood burning stove, generator, inverter, bow thruster, dishwasher, washing machine and fully fitted kitchen.

Laika’s History

She was originally built by her previous owners in Clydebank, before changing hands in 2012. 'Laika' has been loved and lived in by the current owners, who have called her their home for 9 years. During this time she has served as a wonderful home and a magical place to bring up a family. She was last lifted out and had her underside painted 2014 when she was transferred from the brackish water of the Clyde to freshwater on the canal, where she has been since then.

Up to Date Maintenance

Her upper was painted last summer and the walkways/deck this year. The current owners will have her lifted, checked and painted before the new owner takes her, plus the engine will receive a full service before changing hands.

Current Mooring Position

Mooring is currently leased from Scottish Canals at Helenslea, Bowling Harbour, located ten miles from Glasgow city centre or of course she could be moved to a preferred location.

The harbour itself hosts a café, bike repair/sales, a flower shop, and a gift shop, as well as an activities hub run by Scottish Canals.

Mooring is currently £213 per month.

Broadband speed is measured in megabits per second, with the number returned showing how fast the connection is. Each reading is based on the highest predicted speed of any major broadband network for services that deliver the download speeds. The following are the different readings that we may display:

    Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
    Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
    Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s

The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2

Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength

Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:

Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services
