There is also a superb bus service which connects Edinburgh and Carlisle on an hourly basis terminating at the railway station.

The Borders area is very well known for its range of sporting activities and also sporting heroes. Rugby legend Bill Maclaren and Stuart Hogg both come from Hawick. The River Tweed and its tributaries are internationally known for the quality of their salmon and sea trout fishing. Numerous local golf courses, including the Roxburghe Championship Course near Kelso, cater for golf enthusiasts. More easily accessed are 'The Woll' at Ashkirk (5 miles) and two further golf courses in Hawick itself.
