Description
The current owners have created a superb home with a flexible live/work balance over three floors with high volume and industrial scale rooms throughout the maisonette.
Originally built in 1906 for theatre impresario Fred Karno, 36 Southwell Road was the headquarters for his music hall troupe which included Charlie Chaplin and his understudy Stan Laurel. At the time the building was filled with huge theatre sets and then in 2000 the maisonette was redesigned for residential living by the architect Yvonne Dean.
The first floor is currently used by the artist owner as a studio and gallery styled work space. It has four metre high ceilings with incredible light flooding in through galvanised steel windows and doors with access to a large roof terrace. There is also a separate cloakroom with shower on this floor.
On the second floor there are two double bedrooms with painted brick walls and bamboo flooring and a family bathroom. From here there is a French oak staircase leading up to the third floor which is arranged as open planned living space with an incredible vaulted ceiling with exposed beams cleverly illuminated to dramatic effect.
The kitchen area of the living space has bespoke hand built units with concrete work tops and a concrete floor.
Underfloor heating extends across the two upper floors and there is air conditioning throughout the maisonette, and there are solar powered metal roller shutters on the windows that look out on to the street.
Each floor is also accessed via a lift, which is included in the property.

Broadband availability and predicted speed
Broadband speed is measured in megabits per second, with the number returned showing how fast the connection is. Each reading is based on the highest predicted speed of any major broadband network for services that deliver the download speeds. The following are the different readings that we may display:
Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s
The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2
Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength
Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:
Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services
