Description

LOCATION

The village of Bucklers Hard was once an important ship building village in the 18th century and sits on the western bank of the Beaulieu River, a couple of miles south of Beaulieu Village.
Bucklers Hard Village has been in the private ownership of the
Montagu family since it was founded in 1724. It was here that wooden ships for the English fleet were built, some notably serving in the Battle of Trafalgar. Today the village retains much of the atmosphere of its ship building origins.

AMENITIES

There are many moorings along the river and the uniquely situated Yacht Harbour has 110 deep water berths in a beautiful and sheltered reach of the Beaulieu River. From here yachtsmen are centrally located to make use of the glorious sailing offered by the Solent and beyond.

GREATFIELD

Greatfield is an exceptional country house. Expense has not been spared on the refurbishment of the house and in the
creation of the most wonderful gardens.

The original house is likely to date from the early part of the last century and has grown considerably to provide a combination of rooms for traditional living, such as the drawing and dining rooms, and open plan areas such as the kitchen/sitting/eating areas. Not only is the main house thoughtfully laid out with superb attention to detail, there is the inspired addition of the Japanese wing providing guest accommodation with a corresponding garden. There is planning permission for an extension to the cottage garage for bikes and windsurf storage and also planning permission for an oak barn with parking for 3 cars and a workroom near the back gate. This is a superb family house in a magnificent secluded location.

GARDENS AND GROUNDS
The gardens are truly exceptional with a swimming pool area, tennis court and lakes all providing peace and seclusion only minutes from the Beaulieu River. There are south and east facing terraces leading to an area of lawn with extensive rose gardens. Further from the house the grounds become more park-like, although still beautifully maintained, with specimen trees.
