On Saturday, April 11th, one of the world’s oldest sporting events takes place on the River Thames in London.

More than 250,000 people will gather along the banks of the four-and-a-quarter mile course from Putney Bridge to Mortlake as the crews of Oxford and Cambridge battle it out for the 161st Boat Race. And this year is expected to be more popular than ever, with the crews of the Newton Women’s Boat Race also competing on the same day for the first time.

So whether you’re interested in socialising, sunshine or watching the race itself, OnTheMarket.com has put together a list of primely located properties along the route.

Ruvigny Mansions is a majestic Victorian apartment block and couldn’t be in a better location for the race. It’s found on the Putney embankment near the head of the course and commands long, clear views of the route in both directions. With three bedrooms, a reception room and large kitchen breakfast room, all conveniently located minutes away from Putney Bridge Tube station, this property is a rare find. https://www.onthemarket.com/details/1213174/ (£950,000 Kinleigh Folkard & Hayward, West Putney)

Second on the list is a truly stunningly refurbished top floor flat just a stone’s throw away from Hammersmith Bridge providing great access to the Piccadilly, District, Circle and Hammersmith & City lines. This flat has two bedrooms and bathrooms finished to a very high standard. The kitchen living area is light and spacious with sliding glass doors opening on to a substantial decked terrace. https://www.onthemarket.com/details/596503/ (£1,150,000 Kinleigh Folkard & Hayward, Hammersmith)

For those that really want to be in amongst the action, the third property is actually on the river and moored in Chiswick on the Middlesex Station (the north bank of the river), just where the race really gets going. Spread over two floors, with a large outdoor space, this beautiful Dutch Barge has two bedrooms, a dining area with space enough to seat eight people and a sitting room. It has solid oak flooring throughout and a wood-burning stove. Below deck is an open plan kitchen, living area and two double bedrooms — the master bedroom includes an en-suite shower room. https://www.onthemarket.com/details/1212239/ (£575,000 Water Side Residential, Thames Ditton)

Up stream, the next property — a four bedroomed terraced house — has an ideal view as the boats make their way down towards Barnes, thanks to a 20ft roof terrace. Well located for Barnes’ restaurants, gastropubs and cafes (plus accent), it also has great transport links with Barnes Bridge station only a short walk away, and easy access by bus to Richmond and Hammersmith. https://www.onthemarket.com/details/596498/ (£1,750,000 Kinleigh Folkard & Hayward, Hammersmith)

The last property is ideally located for views of the home straight as the exhausted crews enter the final stages of the race. This bright and spacious studio has a private paved terrace with a spacious living area and kitchen. The apartment benefits from its own allocated parking space, secure entry system and bike storage. Nearby there are an array of shops and restaurants, with excellent transport links. https://www.onthemarket.com/details/1337142/ (£1,250 pcm (£288 pw) James Anderson)
