Not only was this amazing home once a water tower for a POW camp, it doubled as a secret communications hub during the Second World War.
Known simply as The Water Tower, it rises 50ft above the Essex countryside near Braintree where 78 Working Camp was once located, housing around 700 Italian and some German prisoners of war.
And when vendor Jon Oakley and his wife Vicky bought the long-derelict structure in 2017, they discovered defunct communications equipment inside left over from when the tower was a clandestine signals hub for Wethersfield, a nearby American airbase.
They spent several hundred thousand pounds on their dream of turning the local landmark into an outstanding modern family home, with four en-suite bedrooms across five storeys and a stunning new-built ground floor extension.
It has been a blissful home for the Oakleys and will hopefully be the same for the next family enticed by its combination of modern comfort, striking views, acre of lawn and unique history.
