Northern towns and cities continue to dominate the OnTheMarket Hotspots top 10, as seaside towns remain at the bottom

The latest edition of our Hotspots Index, which compares the number of instructions, searches and leads to determine the “hotspots” of the property market, shows towns and cities in the north of England continue to see the most action. Meanwhile, coastal towns appear much lower in the list.

Popular Urban Areas

Among main cities and towns across the UK, Bradford once again tops the Hotspots list, with Burnley, Liverpool and Sunderland all moving up to take second, third and fourth. While placed in the Midlands, Coventry is the Southern-most location within the top-10 of this edition. This could be thanks to the higher volume of properties available and lower prices in those areas.

Meanwhile, the bottom three locations on the Hotspots list are Brighton, Worthing and Southend-on-Sea, suggesting Southern, coastal properties are harder to find and potentially more expensive, resulting in a lower score.

The biggest changes seen between this edition, reporting on August-October, to the previous three months include:

  • Peterborough: up 10 places to reach number 14 on the list
  • Aldershot: up 11 places to reach number 28
  • Ipswich: down 13 places to number 40

London

In the Capital City, we see movement within the top-10, but no new entries. Barking and Dagenham remain in prime position while the City of London once again takes second place. Redbridge East enters the top-3, replacing Havering which falls to fourth.

At the other end of the spectrum, Haringey falls 2 places to last place while Lambeth rises from the bottom by one place. Southwark, Hackney and Wandsworth finish off the bottom-5.
