Local knowledge

Living in Wetherby

Wetherby and its surrounding countryside is well-known as the location of choice for some of Yorkshire's leading sports and TV stars. But its celebrity links – and popularity - stretch back a lot further.

During the war, Hollywood heartthrob Clark Gable was stationed at the airfield at Tockwith, one of the many picturesque villages that sit on the edge of the town itself, which also include the likes of Collingham, Linton and Boston Spa – home to the British Library.

But you do not have to be a star of the silver screen to enjoy the attractions of Wetherby.

For many, it is easy to see the lure of this charming district as a place to call 'home'.

The historic and vibrant market town nestles on the banks of the River Wharfe and is at the heart of the so-called "golden triangle" of Leeds, York and Harrogate.
