Living in Chelsea
Chelsea is a popular area of Central London which saw house prices rise nearly 13% in 2014. It is bounded to the south by the River Thames, where its frontage runs from Chelsea Bridge along the Chelsea Embankment and Cheyne Walk. Its eastern boundary was once defined by the River Westbourne, which is now in a pipe above Sloane Square tube station.
Chelsea has a number of fashionable shopping areas including The King Road but the area is also steeped in history. Sir Christopher Wren’s Royal Hospital is to the eastern end of Chelsea and from 1850-1880 the western end of Cheyne Walk was an ‘artistic and bohemian colony’ much loved by the pre-Raphaelite movement. Chelsea Football Club, owned by Russian businessman Roman Abramovich, is just outside the western border of the borough.
