Local knowledge

Living in Basingstoke

Basingstoke is situated in southern England and is the largest town in Hampshire County. It’s wealth of history and attractions makes it a bustling town with many activities to do as well as being surrounded by scenic countryside landscapes.
History of Basingstoke Although the town of Basingstoke developed rapidly in the 1960’s to help accommodate a rising population after the second World War, its history dates back much earlier. Basingstoke is renowned for being an old market town, and the Basingstoke market was mentioned in the infamous Doomsday book of 1086. The Willis Museum actually showcases evidence of early human settlement dating back to Palaeolithic times where they have axes and flints on display.
